We arrived safley at Le Havre port at 08:00 on Tuesday morning – The nights sleep was not the best as we were in a row of pet friendly cabins and when one dog barks all the dogs bark so it was an eventful night. The drive to our first French site was just over 180km and we arrived just after lunch. The site is set in 100 acres of farm land and has an old Chateau as its main feature – facilities are European but there is an outdoor heated pool which is lovely to cool us down as the temperature is rising and the weather is beautiful. We plan to stay and explore the site for our first full day….
Thursday 21st June – Summer Solstice – Went off to explore the local towns of Julloville, Saint-Pair-sur-Mer and Granville. They all lay on the coast and have a mass stretch of beach that was pretty empt. Granville seemed to have the most history as it was occupied by the German Army and there was plenty of evidence of gun defence placements.
Friday 22nd was the hottest day so far so we decided to stay at the site and make use of the out door pool and sunbath, we ended the day with a few cheeky drinks in the bar and a BBQ
Saturday 23rd was a day out to explore Mont Saint-Michel which was about an hours drive south – our first siting was from about 5 miles away across flat lands – the island looked like it was float in the air. We parked in the purpose built car park which is about 3km away from the mont – you can get the free shuttle but not with dogs, so off we set in the midday sun. When we got there it was well worth the effort you could just feel the history all around you. We explored the streets that were tiny and most of the buildings now housed bars, restaurants and shops but you could still imagine what it was like back in the 10th Century…
Our last full day was Sunday 24th June so we again enjoyed the warm weather and out door pool, Monday we set off North East back towards Caen, then North to the coast just above Bayeux. On to our next French site and adventure see you on our next blog page….
