Monday 25th June – Arrived safely after a 2 hour drive through some narrow French country lanes – The D100 was very narrow so note to navigator don’t travel on D roads if possible…. We stayed around the site for our first day exploring, we had a steak and chicken BBQ followed by a cheeky one watching the football in the Bar.
Tuesday 26th June – We headed out west along the coast to explore the area known as Omaha beach – The name given to a long stretch of beach that was used by the US 1st Infantry Division for its role in the D-Day landings. We visited the sandy beach and explored the bunkers and gun placements along the coast. We also visited a small museum and a local small town that was at the heart of the US forces D-Day assault… That evening we walked down a very steep hill to the local port for a few drinks and ended up back at the site Bar for dinner…
Wednesday 27th June – Off into Bayeux and then to the coast to see preserved German gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer
Bayeux was a very historic interesting town – probably the largest city we have visited whilst in France – interesting shops, buildings and lost of history from Norman times right up to the end of the WWII
Thursday 28th June was our last full day on the Normandy coast until we set off for our final destination in the heart of the Wildlife Park Parc Natural set in the Boucles de la Seine region – which is located just West of Rouen and North West of Paris. We spent our day around the area paying a final visit to the Omaha beaches – passing thru a small village which had displayed WWII pictures taken at the location they where shown. We then wandered down to say a final goodbye to the local port and stayed for a pizza and a 1664 lunch. That evening was spent watching a low key game in the bar, well at least Dudley got into the spirit of it. We both really enjoyed this site – good sized pitch with plenty of privacy, swimming pool and a nice stroll to the local port for restaurants and bars….,
