Arrived on Saturday 30th June with no navigation or towing errors – The campsite is in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional and is cupped by the river Siene only accessible from the south by ferry or bridge – we did the the bridge. Jumièges is a small village 600 m from the site – it is famous for its Benedictine Abbey built in 654 AD and it’s history is told thru Viking invasions, Norman conquests and eventual after being rebuilt and extended several time was finally destroyed during the French Revolution in the 18th century. The village has a few bars and restaurants that we will visit at some point no doubt. The site itself is small and run by a French family who have a bar and reception together so they can serve and accept guests at the same time – great idea. It also has a small outdoor area with a TV that has been showing the football creating a social gathering area in the day and evening.
Sunday 1st July Pinch Punch everyone – enjoyed the local area and pool at the site as the temperatures hit 32 degrees and unlike the coast were we had just come from there is no breeze to keep us cool – so pool and cold beer it is then. Dudley struggling with the weather is mostly wearing a damp tea towel to keep him cool.
Monday 2nd July we set off and headed North East the the biggest city near to us called Rouen – Again a city steeped in history going back a 1000 years – One of the sites I will remember most was the Parliament Building – the largest gothic building in France it was built in 1499 and is situated in what was the corner of the Jewish Quarter – the reason for its affect on us was the visible bullet and shell holes caused by the Allied bombing during the cities liberation from the Germans in 1944.
Last evening 4th July and day 5th July in France – Stayed around the site and had our last French lunch down in the village and spent the day packing and cleaning ready for our trip back to England that evening – We of course watched the Sweden Game at the site that evening.
